NJYHL ALL STAR GAME 2008

The 13th Annual Lou Manzione All-Star Games were a great success for NJYHL as the league won both bantam and midget 16-under games over the DVHL.

Bantam Game:
Three different scorers along with three goalies led the NJYHL to a 3-0 victory over the DVHL. Matt Gumina (Brick) scored in the first period off assists from Richie Johnstone (Bridgewater Bears) and Steven Shumaker (Toms River). Willy Baker (Ramapo Saints) made it 2-0 in the second off assists from Matt Velez (Toms River) and Robert Fisher (Red Bank Generals). Jay Malone (Tome River) finished out the scoring with a powerplay goal in the third off a pass from Vincent Conanan (Red Bank Generals). Vincent Padula (Red Bank Generals), Kyle Shapiro (Brick) and Neil Scancerella (Montclair) combined for 23 saves in net for the shutout.

Midget Game:
Corey Lunney (Red Bank Generals) and Zach Hiller (Ramapo Saints) each scored two goals to pace the NJYHL to a 7-5 victory over the DVHL despite being outshot 37-29. Lunney scored the only goal of the first period off a pass from Patrick Branagan (Red Bank Generals). After Ben Pulley (Old York Road) tied it for the DVHL in the second, Brandon Vigorito (Montclair) tipped in a Rich Meyer (Red Bank Generals) wristshot from the blueline. Pulley's second goal again tied it for the DVHL, but NJYHL responded with a goal 25 seconds later when Hiller scored his first off a pass from Sean O'Conner (Ramapo Saints).

NJYHL scored the first three goals of the third period to take a commanding 6-2 lead. Lunney started it with his second goal, a shorthanded goal, off a pass from Branagan. Hiller then scored his second with assists going to O'Connor and Johnny Hill (Ramapo Saints). Branagan scored the sixth goal off a pass from Matt Dornacker (Brick). Michael Davis (Delaware Ducks) would cut the lead to 6-3 with a goal, but a defensive zone giveaway led to a Andrew Koslov (Montclair) unassisted goal to make the score 7-3. In the last seven minutes, the DVHL scored twice to pull to within two goals, but were unable to pull off the comeback. Danny Sproull (Woodbridge Wolfpack) made 32 saves in net for NJYHL.

NJYHL wishes to thank the coaches of the two teams, Robert Mitchell (Bridgewater Bears), Paul Losik and Kevin Angert (Woodbridge Wolfpack), George Colwell and Alex DePalma (Brick). Also, Yves Heroux (NJYHL Coaching Director and All-Star coordinator), Lori Tomasello (NJYHL Secretary), Colleen Molinari (DVHL President) and Frank McGady (NJYHL President) deserve thanks for helping run the event. Finally, thanks to Doug Brooks and the Red Bank Armory for hosting the event.
